Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System officially comes off the Danger List
APAMO is please to announce that the World Heritage Committee officially made the decision to remove the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System from the Danger List! We once again would like to congratulate the Ministry of Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment and Sustainable Development and the Ministry of Natural Resources for having accomplished this invaluable work!
The consideration to de-list the BBRRS was championed by the Government of Belize’s actions to legislate a moratorium on oil exploration and other petroleum operations in Belize’s maritime zone and to revise Belize’s Mangrove Regulations. APAMO also applauds the significant contributions of WWF Belize Saving our Shared Heritage and National Commission for UNESCO-Belize.
It is crucial that we continue to cherish and protect this World Heritage Site as it has an integral role in the lives of many Belizeans, it sustains significant marine and terrestrial biodiversity, as well as providing a habitat for several endangered species.
