UNDERSTANDING BIODIVERSITY LOSS: FOSTERING AWARENESS AND ACTION AMONG CSOs

The primary objective of this project was to raise awareness among especially Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) about the pressing need for action to mitigate the degradation of natural resources leading to biodiversity loss. Recognizing key factors such as changes in land and sea use, overexploitation, climate change, pollution, and invasive species as key drivers of biodiversity loss, the project aimed to enhance stakeholders’ understanding of these issues.

Establish an institutional cooperation agreement between the two Parties. The regional project aims to mainstream climate-smart principles into marine protected area management and coastal development policies in countries the Mesoamerican Reef with a view to improve the adaptive capacities of coastal communities in the region.

SAVING THE BELIZE BARRIER REEF FROM OFFSHORE OIL EXPLORATION

The goal of this project is to build public awareness on the impacts and risks of oil exploration and drilling within the territorial waters and protected areas of Belize and garner enough local and international support through petitions, letters to the government of Belize, and, a rally (should the need arise), to get the government to effect a ban on oil exploration and drilling offshore and in protected areas in Belize by 2011 leading to the development of a Policy on Oil Exploration and Protected Areas for Belize that will safeguard protected areas and ecosystems including the Belize Barrier Reef and guide Belize’s energy developments.
