Building the financial sustainability of the Association of Protected Areas Management Organizations (APAMO) network

Building the financial sustainability of the Association of Protected Areas Management Organizations (APAMO) network

Project Goal

To create an enabling environment for resource mobilization, revenue sharing and generation by APAMOs Secretariat and its CBO members to raise the financing necessary to sustainably manage, and maintain protected areas.

Justification

This project will continue to build on APAMO’s objective of institutional strengthening by providing training, mentoring, coaching and technical assistance to improve governance, financial accountability and transparency of its members, in particular CBOs, to work successfully. This grant will help to maintain and improve the enabling environment for the expansion of the gains already attained toward meaningful participation in the co-management process. Ultimately, by maintaining the existing support system for co-managers, APAMO’s members will individually and collectively enhance their governance, management and operational effectiveness, becoming more transparent and accountable; while also garnering financial stability to leverage further investments in the protected areas. Consequently, improved governance, effective management and financial security will all contribute to the long term integrity and sustainability of the national protected areas system.

At the landscape level this integrated approach to protected areas management through the APAMO network will continue to directly contribute to the achievement of the national objective of the operationalization, consolidation and sustainability of Belize’s protected areas system.
